CGI Door Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
CGI door installation in San Antonio typically runs $240 – $520 installed for most hinges, sweeps, panels, and threshold assemblies, and we complete most single-door part swaps in under two hours. If you have a CGI door with a part that’s failed, worn, or no longer seals against Texas heat and storms, we stock the CGI-compatible hardware on our trucks and can have it matched by model and series the same visit. Most homeowners notice the problem as a door that drags, a gap at the bottom where daylight shows through, or a latch that no longer lines up after years of settling and temperature swings.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
CGI doors fall into several series families: the Estate Collection, the Sentry Collection, and their commercial-rated impact lines. Each series uses slightly different hinge geometry, sweep profiles, and threshold heights, which is the number one reason a generic part from a big-box store doesn’t seat right. The quickest way to identify your door is the label on the hinge edge or top rail: it will list the series name, the panel size, and the manufacturing date. If the label is missing or faded, we measure the door slab thickness (CGI doors are typically 1¾” or 2¼”), the hinge spacing, and the sweep channel profile.
One compatibility gotcha we run into in San Antonio regularly: CGI’s 2008-and-newer Sentry doors use a taller bottom rail, so the sweep that worked on a 2005 model will leave a gap on a 2012 model even if the door looks identical from the outside. We carry both profiles. On the OEM versus aftermarket decision: for hinges and rollers, a quality aftermarket part matched to spec is fine and saves money. For sweeps, weatherstripping, and threshold caps, we recommend CGI’s OEM profile, because the aftermarket versions are often a few millimeters short, which matters when the July sun makes the slab expand and the sweep has to compress properly.
Signs Your CGI Door Installation Is Failing
- A gap of daylight at the bottom corner. This usually means the sweep has hardened or the threshold cap has worn unevenly. In San Antonio, UV exposure makes rubber sweeps brittle in three to five years, faster if the door faces west and takes full afternoon sun.
- The door scrapes the floor on the latch side. Hinges have worn bushings, or the slab has settled slightly with the house. A sagging CGI door puts extra strain on the latch, which then starts to stick.
- The latch turns but won’t retract. The internal mechanism in the handle set has stripped. On CGI impact doors, the multipoint lock mechanisms are tough, but the smaller latch tabs wear out first and leave you locked out or locked in.
- Water staining on the interior floor after a heavy rain. San Antonio storms blow sideways, and a worn threshold cap will channel water under the door. If the threshold screws have come loose, tightening them helps for a while, but the gasket underneath is usually shot.
- The door is suddenly harder to open or close. This is often hinge misalignment, but on a CGI door it can also mean the frame has moved. We check both because adjusting the hinge without checking the frame just postpones the real fix.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For San Antonio homes, CGI door installation parts and labor typically break down like this:
- Bottom sweep replacement: $40 – $85 installed
- Weatherstripping and threshold cap: $95 – $190 installed
- Hinge replacement (set of 3): $120 – $230 installed
- Handle set and latch replacement: $180 – $340 installed, depending on finishes and whether it’s a single-point or multipoint lock
- Full threshold assembly: $220 – $520 installed
Every quote is a written price before we touch the door, and it includes the part, labor, and haul-away of the old piece. The range depends mostly on which CGI series you have and whether we need to shim or adjust the frame. Every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the work isn’t right, we make it right, no argument needed. And if a repair fails, the second visit is free.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: look for loose hinge screws, note where the door catches or drags, and wipe the sweep channel clean. But we’d stop short of telling you to replace the hardware yourself, mostly for liability reasons and partly from experience. Hinges on a CGI impact door don’t tolerate a strap-hung slab; if the door rocks and the hinge tears out of the frame, the door comes down and it’s a much bigger job. Sweeps seem simple until you realize the two screws at each end are under 20 years of grime and the channel is narrower than the aftermarket sweep you bought on Saturday. We’ve pulled more stripped screws and chipped threshold channels out of San Antonio doors than we can count. Spencer Odell will tell you the same thing he tells every homeowner: give us the model number or a photo of the label, and we’ll bring the right part the first time. Call (361) 348-8929.
FAQs
In San Antonio’s heat and sun, bottom sweeps and weatherstripping last roughly three to five years, hinges and latch mechanisms often ten or more. Southern exposure shortens that; western exposure shortens it fastest. We see more sweep failures on doors with afternoon sun than any other single factor.
Some parts can be repaired: latch mechanisms can sometimes be cleaned and re-lubed, and a loose threshold can be re-seated with new screws and a fresh gasket. But sweeps and weatherstripping are replace-only parts, and hinge bushings can’t reliably be repaired once they’ve worn. We’ll tell you which one you have before any money changes hands. Call (361) 348-8929 for an honest read.
Most single-part replacements take under two hours from the time we arrive. A full threshold assembly with frame adjustment can run a half day. We schedule a window and stick to it, and we don’t leave until the door opens, closes, and seals the way it should.
Yes, we stock CGI-compatible sweeps, hinges, threshold caps, and handle sets for the Estate and Sentry series, plus we service PGT, CWS, and ES Windows doors as well. If your door is a less common commercial-rated CGI model, we’ll order the part and return to install it, with the same written price before work starts.
